Medicaid renewal is the process of applying for Medicaid benefits to make sure you still qualify for the program. It is for current Medicaid recipients only. While Medicaid renewals continue to take place every 12 months (once a year), upcoming changes will affect how often some people who have Medicaid benefits will need to apply to renew their coverage.
Everybody’s renewal date is different. The Illinois Department of Health and Family Services (HFS) will tell you when you need to reapply. It is important to keep your contact information up to date, so you don’t miss your renewal date.

If you are no longer eligible for Medicaid, don’t worry. You may be able to connect to coverage at work or through the official Affordable Care Act Marketplace for Illinois, GetCoveredIllinois.gov.
